Metal Gear Solid 2 ending

Metal Gear Solid 2 is divided into 2 different chapters: the short chapter ‘Tanker’ that precedes the main chapter ‘Plant’. In the second chapter, you play as a new character that has not been seen previously in an MGS: Raiden game. Although the story is mainly based on playing as him, Solid Snake (who you play as in the first chapter) plays an important role in the game, as you join him on several occasions.

The ending of Metal Gear Solid 2 begins after Raiden, Snake, Solidus, and Liquid Ocelot meet aboard the top of Arsenal Gear. After learning of Ocelot’s plan to create a soldier training program (called the ‘S3 program’), he escapes into Metal Gear Ray (who is capable of swimming), and Snake follows him. Arsenal Gear is heading to New York on a collision route, and Raiden and Solidus find themselves on top of the Federal Hall building. From here you must defeat Solidus (who is the final boss of the game) using only a sword.

The ending of Metal Gear Solid 2 continues with Snake and Raiden meeting on the streets of New York, and Snake revealing that he intends to track down Liquid Ocelot with the help of Otacon and defeat him for good. He also reveals that he is in possession of a secret disk containing the identity of the 12 patriots. However, upon closer inspection, all 12 are seen to have been dead for over a century.

It is a well known fact that the ending of Metal Gear Solid 2 was edited due to the events of the terrorist attacks in America on September 11, where the World Trade Center towers were destroyed in New York. In the game, Arsenal Gear was originally seen crashing into the Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island. This was removed from the game’s final scene (which hits territory over an hour anyway) as the feeling was that the scene would be tacky and not necessary for the story.
