Tea break: the secret to working from home, managing your time, even your break time

Tea break or coffee break

In the United States, it is common to take a short break from work. Most people refer to this as a coffee break.

Some people are moving away from the cafe. Instead, they are having tea. This break in the day usually lasts about ten minutes. Enough time to have a drink and refresh your energies.

Both beverages contain caffeine. The caffeine in coffee gives a quick shake. It acts immediately on our systems to speed up our metabolism and the central nervous system. The caffeine in tea works differently in our bodies. Effects are felt more progressively and update over a longer period of time. This is due to the way the polyphenols in tea react with caffeine. I like that sense of alertness that stays with me.

Those of us who work from home also need a break. I try to organize myself in my work. It is important to treat my home office as if it were in a corporate building downtown. In other words, if I decide to do a load of laundry, it won’t be on my coffee / tea break. It will be on my lunch break. I won’t put those clothes in the dryer until my work day is done. I comply with the hours of my day that have been scheduled to be dedicated to my business.

I do not allow myself to deviate. A quick phone call to a friend that was supposed to take five minutes can end in half an hour. I don’t want that to happen. It is important to be disciplined to be successful at work from home. However, taking a break allows me to refresh myself so I can do my best work.

For my coffee / tea break, my beverage choice would always be tea. I like the refreshing but also relaxing feeling it gives me. A little break allows me to regroup. I’m ready to focus again when I get back to the job at hand. I usually add a piece of fresh fruit to the mix or maybe carrot and celery sticks. I feel like I am paying attention to proper diet when I do this.

Your work at home may consist of running a business or starting a family. Both jobs are important. Both jobs can be stressful. Take time during the day to feel distressed. Take a break from what you are doing. Stop, relax. You decide if it is a coffee or tea break.
