The Telemarketing Prayer

You can be the most experienced and well-trained salesperson in the world and still deliver flat, lifeless presentations, while the novice next to you could sound inspired and break all sales records using a fraction of their skills. Have you ever wondered why you can drop into a depression while they are flying, defying gravity? Is it a matter of hope and faith? Are they asking for and receiving help?

I have discovered that there is a strange connection between the times when I say a short silent prayer and when I have achieved the best results with my sales prospects. Here are some of the things I’ve asked for help with.

Let me be as refreshingly clear as water.

Let me be enthusiastic, showing my commitment to my product and company.

Let me open my ears, to listen to the client and appreciate his point of view.

Let me be brave enough to strongly and convincingly guide my prospect to buy.

Don’t suffer from sales remorse.

Help me take comfort in the fact that most people are reluctant to buy at first, but then they’re glad they bought. Help me to appreciate that sales are the spark plugs of all entrepreneurial activity. Without sales, businesses and the people they employ cannot move forward.

Constantly remind me that there is only one person as important as a salesperson and that is a customer. We need each other, and when we serve each other it is because we have seen that our interests are aligned. We improve the lives of others.

Help me to appreciate that the telephone is the best medium to sell. Climate, weather and topography are completely irrelevant. It’s always the right time to reach out and sell to someone(TM).
