Top Ten Reasons for Non-Starter Vehicles

Top Ten Reasons I See Vehicles Arriving At Ace Automotive With No Starting Issues

  1. Electric Fuel Pump Failure / Fuel Filter Restriction
  2. One of the most common lack of start problems that I have seen in recent times is the failure of the electric fuel pumps in the tank, mainly due to the lack of proper scheduled maintenance on the vehicle owners, due to not the fuel filter is changed at the proper intervals. Sure, some fuel filters can cost approx. $ 100.00 and even to replace several times a year, but on some vehicles, like the late 90’s Jeep Grand Cherokees, replacing the fuel pump costs almost $ 800.00! How many times do you want to pay that? Also another cause of premature fuel pump failure is allowing the fuel level to drop below ¼ of the tank and below for extended periods or completely run out of fuel, running out of fuel allows the electric fuel pump to run “dry”, which almost immediately ruins the pump. . Vortec Design GM 4.3L, 5.7L engines with the CPI fuel injection system the CPI unit fails in many different ways; plastic tubes are leaking, poppets are plugged, fuel pressure regulator is leaking.

  3. Timing belt failure / Timing belt tensioner failure
  4. The timing belts are designed to last approx. 40,000-60,000 miles under normal use failing to change the timing belt before it “breaks” can result in costly engine damage in some vehicles, such as Honda, Acura, Nissan, and Mitsubishi. Always change the timing belt a little before the recommended change interval and check the tensioner replacement if questionable. Timing belt tensioner failure is common.

  5. Distributor failure / ignition control modules included
  6. Mid 80 Gm 4 cylinder. V-6s Most GMs w / 4 cylinder electronic distributor, V-6, V-8 1988-1998) 1980s / 90s Ford TFI ignition (gray module bolted to exterior of distributor) Ford truck assemblies inside dealer I’ve seen a lot of dealer failures at Honda, especially due to bearing failures.

  7. ECM / PCM (computer) failure
  8. Mainly in GM products from the mid-80s with 2.8L engines and “W” in the eighth position of the VIN #
  9. Alternators
  10. The most troublesome alternator I have seen is the CS130 / CS130D on some mid 80s GMs for the CS130 and later GMs the CS130D on the 92s and later like Grand Am, Grand Prix etc.

  11. Crank / Cam Sensors
  12. Late Model 92-93 Chrysler Vehicles with 3.3L Caravan, Voyager, Mid 80s Engine GMs 2.0L Crank Sensors 2.5L Mid 80s Crank Sensors – Early 90s GM V-6s Crank Sensors 90s Engines Jeeps 4.0L Sensors cam / crank Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl engine start sensors (Failure due to balance belt failure and broken belt cuts sensor wires and damages sensor)

  13. Batteries / Cables / Clamps
  14. Many neglected corroded batteries arrive at our facilities; Batteries don’t last forever! Poor maintenance practices cause many battery failures, often leading to other problems.

  15. Electric problems
  16. Ford ignition switches, in the early 90’s escorts, the electrical part of the ignition switch will separate inside, some Ford ignition switches are known to cause fires!

  17. Diverse

Vehicles out of fuel due to inaccurate fuel gauges

Engines blocked due to lack of oil

Clogged exhaust systems (catalytic converters

Missing or worn flywheel teeth cannot turn the engine

Faulty fuel injectors

But I have NEVER seen or heard of a car that won’t start or runs poorly due to the brand of gasoline being used!
