Sightseeing

Nadi, Fiji’s third largest center, on the Pacific Ocean. It is a beautiful tropical paradise, ideal for romantic honeymooners. There is much to see, such as the village of Navala, where the houses are built in the traditional way with woven bamboo walls and thatched roofs. The journey to the village can be quite bumpy but it is well worth the journey and the scenery is stunning with perfect photo opportunities. Upon arrival at the village, you will be greeted with the Yaqona Ceremony, a group coming together over the traditional Fijian drink. You can learn to dive in the best soft corals in the world, although if you prefer to do a little snorkeling it will still be a fabulous experience. Try an excursion to Bouma National Park, it is a fantastic rainforest with 1000 foot volcanic peaks and the most popular attraction which is Tavora Falls, three wonderful cascades. Fiji has many islands that are very close together, making it very easy to navigate by kayak. There are many tour companies that offer experiences for the whole family, from museums with fascinating artifacts to temples and adventure sports.

Beaches

Going from beach to beach is a wonderful experience; these can be reached by catamaran or local fishing boats. The Yasawa Islands are probably the best place to do this, as it has a collection of small coral islands, with beautiful beaches that you can jump from one to another. Nananu-I-Ra Island is a beautiful beach that takes a couple of hours to drive through the wonderful Nadi countryside. Once there, you can practice windsurfing or kitesurfing: the location is ideal for these activities. You can also snorkel and see the colorful corals and exotic fish life, or just lie on the beautiful white sands and enjoy the tropical sun topping off your tan. Whichever beach you choose, it will be ideal for relaxing.

Eating

Hotels cater to the international tourist, but if you want to experience true Fijian cuisine, you should venture outside your hotels to local village restaurants, where you will find a variety of local cuisine such as Fijian Lovo. This is a feast that consists of meat, fish, vegetables and fruits that have been cooked in covered holes, you must try it, it is delicious and very abundant. Other local dishes consist of local fish and coconut, you will find food to fit your budget, but there are no fast food outlets. There are several supermarkets if you are staying on the island.

Shopping

There are many duty free shops and big box stores selling a variety of local and international items, or small designer boutiques where you can find something unique to buy in Nadi. Visiting the lively tropical market is a must for all the family, it’s full of color and exotic goods to buy and gives you a chance to chat with the locals. Perhaps the Suva flea market would be an ideal place to shop for holiday souvenirs of local crafts and clothing.
