Why do you need a raised floor?

Before everything went high-tech and wireless, there was a time when if you were finishing your basement, you’d opt for a drop ceiling to hide your wires. This way he could hook up his entertainment system without unsightly wires running through the wall and when he needed to fix his setup he would just pull a plate out of the ceiling, do what he needed to do and then put it back on.

While today’s modern offices have a lot of things that are wireless, there are still a lot of wires available and thus, keeping with the theme of dropped ceilings, raised floors were born. What they are are handy places to run all your cables out of sight and out of mind. If you need to repair something, just scoop out some of the floor, get the job done, and return the floor to its original appearance.

It may seem strange that you have a false floor in the office, but if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Instead of cold concrete underfoot, you now have a false floor that is built from the ground up and can be kept warm or cool depending on outside temperatures and is also a great place to keep unsightly things out of sight.

Raised floors can also be ventilated so you no longer need air vents coming from the wall or ceiling. Instead, hot air can rise from the floor and does what hot air does: it rises to heat the entire space. Same for fresh air in the hot summer months.

The best part about a raised floor is that it can be any size you want, depending on your overall office space. If you just want a small raised floor that you can access from above, it’s a good option, but they can also be built so that a technician can walk under it to do any work that needs to be done. What size free space for a floor is all customized and suitable for your office and your needs.

Raised floors can be covered with square rugs, tile, or hardwood-look substances so that any floor look can be achieved while maintaining ease of entry. Most offices, hospitals, and the like have these raised floors, but they’re so good at staying hidden that no one really notices.
