Treatment and causes of male oral thrush

Treatment of male yeast infection is necessary after there is an outbreak of Candida. Candidiasis is caused by the same organism responsible for female and male yeast infections. Thrush occurs when there is too much yeast breeding. Candida yeast is found throughout the human body in places like the intestines, throat, digestive tract, and mouth. When the body’s chemical balance becomes unstable and hospitable to Candida; the yeast begins to replicate much more rapidly. This often results in uncomfortable problems with male thrush.

A number of conditions contribute to male Candida. Oral and penile yeasts are caused by a variety of conditions that affect the body’s chemistry. Here are some commonly contributing factors:

  • Use of antibiotics for long periods of time.
  • Sex with someone who has a yeast infection
  • Nonoxynol-9 (spermicide often found in condoms)
  • Diabetes
  • Weakened immune system (ie HIV)

Symptoms of male yeast infection:

We’ve looked at a number of causes of male thrush, but how can you tell if the problem exists? There are many different possible symptoms of Candida in men and the infection can occur in a variety of moist places. Due to the excess skin and the likelihood of increased moisture, it is not uncommon for uncircumcised men to get yeast on their penis more often.

Here are some of the symptoms that are typically experienced with male thrush:

  • white spots in the mouth
  • Itching and burning on the penis or inside the mouth
  • Redness and/or itchy rash
  • White discharge from the penis.

STDs also exhibit some of these symptoms, so it would be wise to consult a professional before drawing any specific conclusions. They will be able to observe your symptoms and take samples to check the cause of your infection.

Treatment of male candidiasis:

What can you do to reduce the chances of an oral or penile yeast infection?

  • Avoid having sex with a partner who has yeast infection
  • Trim your pubic hair to reduce humidity.
  • Keep your genitals and any moist areas dry. Try using a powder like Gold Bond or Baby Powder
  • Wear loose clothing that helps promote air circulation.
  • Avoid wearing wet clothing for extended periods of time (i.e. bathing suit)

Treating male thrush can be as easy as changing your diet to lower the amounts of refined sugar and alcohol you consume. Candida LOVES sugar, so reduce or eliminate these from your diet if possible. Eat a more balanced diet full of green leafy vegetables and also take Acidophilus tablets. Your yeast infection should not come back.
