Conversational Hypnosis: Hypnosis Techniques

What is conversational hypnosis? it is an art. A performance art, if you will. Like juggling or grand speaking, it is essentially a skill that can be learned, developed and, for some, mastered. Commitment to and access to the correct hypnosis techniques is all that is needed for most people to become proficient in conversational hypnosis.

Conversational hypnosis is the practice of inducing hypnotic trances by captivating someone’s focus through the use of language. Furthermore, trance is induced for the specific purpose of providing access to a person’s underlying psychology with a view to changing a predetermined aspect of that person’s psychology. This is known as conversational induction and is the most powerful form of interpersonal communication known to science.

Conversational hypnosis works by breaking down the goal into achievable and measurable hypnosis techniques. The hypnotist needs to develop a ‘Signal Recognition System’ so that he can ‘read’ a person’s trance level. They need to be able to build relationships quickly and ‘Inform’. They need to understand both the basics of hypnotic language and its ultimate application in seemingly normal conversation. They need to develop the use of specific hypnosis techniques such as ‘Authority Strategies’, strategies to destroy resistance, etc. By combining these and other skills, the conversational hypnotist is able to adapt and ‘calibrate’ their hypnosis techniques to suit different people and environments. It is an extremely versatile and phenomenally effective ability.

At an early stage, you will need to learn some “Sign Recognition Systems”. Conversational hypnosis is a modern and constantly evolving skill that encompasses the latest psychological methodologies and research. For example, by adopting aspects of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), conversational hypnosis teaches how to recognize the subtle cues in language that reveal the presence of trance. So if you learn these hypnosis techniques, you will not only be able to monitor and calibrate your own progression through the hypnotic process, but you will also begin to notice the incredible frequency with which trance occurs in all of our daily lives. Cue recognition is a core element of hypnosis technique because you use and enhance it throughout the initial learning process and beyond.

A good conversational hypnotist can quickly build an effective relationship with an individual. Conversational hypnotists refer to this stage of the process as building a “communication.” However, it is not simply the kind of transient relationships that most of us use every day to communicate with people we meet casually. Using hypnotic language, the conversational hypnotist builds a deeper and lasting relationship with the person to be hypnotized. This can be accomplished in a remarkably short space of time and allows the hypnotist to establish the kind of intimacy that will encourage the hypnotized person to behave as instructed. Not because they are doing what they are told, but because they want to do what they are told.

This is only possible thanks to the ‘hypnotic language foundation’ and ‘advanced hypnotic language’ hypnosis techniques. The use of a predetermined language is absolutely essential for the success of conversational hypnosis. The hypnotic effect is produced through a combination of words. Of course, this is a partial definition of language itself and, in fact, language is the tool that the human brain uses to organize thought. When we think, we build images through the use of language. Therefore, by using language in a certain way, we can introduce new images into the minds of others.

Using predetermined language strategies, such as ‘Authority Strategy’, the hypnotist can formulate suggestions that the subject unconsciously wants to follow. In essence, the subject wants to carry out his hypnotic suggestion even though he is not aware of it. ‘Authority strategies’ are central to conversational hypnosis because the hypnotist must be able to guide the subject through the hypnosis for it to be effective.

The successful conversational hypnotist understands the emotional triggers that influence the subjects’ responses. Once identified, these emotional triggers can be used by the hypnotist to alter subjects’ feelings regarding their perception of the hypnotist and their emotional response to the suggestions. This is part of the process of overcoming the subject’s natural resistance to psychological intervention. This ‘resistance’ is a perfectly normal human defense mechanism called a ‘critical factor’. Without it, we would simply believe anything we were told.

Consequently, another extremely important skill to acquire is the ‘Strategy of Destroying the Resistance’. This is achieved through the use of metaphor and storytelling to overcome the critical factor. The repetition of language reinforces concepts, while the metaphorical story allows the subject to agree with and eventually adopt concepts that they would otherwise reject. This is an extremely powerful process as the hypnotist can begin to suggest entirely new ways of thinking to the subject, resulting in real changes in the subject’s behavior.

As has already been said, these hypnosis techniques are not vague concepts. They are practical skills that are based on specific formulas. This means two things. One, they can be learned by anyone who takes the time to understand them and two, they can be shown to be effective and can be continually refined and developed through practice. For example, the P-CAT (Problem, Confusion, Resource Access, and Transformation) formula allows the conversational hypnotist to change problematic psychological responses to emotional triggers. Similarly, other useful formulas, such as the COMILA formula (captivation, mood, heighten mood, attachment, and action) and the LIFE checklist (language, induction, frames, and emotion), allow the conversational hypnotist to monitor quickly and accurately the techniques of hypnosis as the hypnotic language continues. .

Additionally, specific hypnosis techniques can be used to further the hypnotic process. For example, ‘Future Memories’ is a process whereby the use of hypnotic language and metaphors creates a desire for memories of events that have not actually happened. These are then positively reinforced through techniques such as the ‘Triple Hypnotic’ and ‘Persistence Tactics’. Other hypnosis techniques such as ‘Stacking Realities’ or ‘Accidental Trance Identification’ allow the hypnotist to bypass the critical factor and create greater influence. For example, with ‘Advanced Frame Control’, the conversational hypnotist can continuously monitor and shape the conversation to better follow the hypnotic process.

These are just some of the skills you need to acquire. However, while there are numerous hypnosis techniques and strategies that you should become familiar with on the way to becoming an effective conversational hypnotist, these are not individually difficult to learn. Using these strategies and linguistic skills, the conversational hypnotist can establish an incredible level of influence on the subject’s subconscious mind. The brilliance of this hypnosis technique is that anyone listening to the conversation will not necessarily notice anything unusual about it. In fact, what is even more surprising, the subjects themselves are not aware of the process.
