Good Breeds of Dogs for Houses With Children

Agile and quick enough to stay out of the way when needed, yet cute and cuddly in his own right, our long-haired mixed-breed Chihuahua Papillon named Alex, who weighs about five pounds and is “soggy” at one year of age , is an excellent option for families with small and older children. But crawling babies can be unintentionally scratched by the dog in their playful antics and the dog can be inadvertently hit by the baby with a toy, if the adult in charge of the duo isn’t exercising enough supervision to protect both from harm. .

The Characteristics of our Papihuahua

Because the Papillon is dominant in our mixed breed, we refer to Alex as a “Papihuahua” and not a “Chion”, a dog with dominant Chihuahua characteristics. In our opinion, the Papihuahua is the best combination of characteristics and gives Alex the best of both breeds. Some examples will help clarify my point of view.

  • The appearance of our papihuahua

With his long, high-set, well-feathered tail, usually carried in an arc over his back, and his characteristic pointed ears, resembling the outstretched wings of a butterfly, Alex is the Papillon, a word meaning “butterfly” in French. – in contrast to the floppy ears of the phalene variety of the breed. His small size and weight of just five pounds comes from the Chihuahua, as adult purebred Papillons are typically twice the size and weight of Alex.

  • potty training

Experiencing difficulty getting Alex to let us know when he needed to go to the bathroom and urinate, we almost begged the Almighty to tell Alex to give us a sign when he should be allowed out. Prayers heard, Alex now climbs on top of his owner, places his face against hers, looks his owner in the eye and gently touches his face until he relents and leads him outside. Lesson learned? Be careful what he asks for in prayer, he might get it.

  • Our Papihuahua at stake

Alex loves scattering his many toys around the house, taking one to its owner to be thrown away and retrieved, and enjoys wiggling and rolling around on the floor until he strikes the right pose and then “talks” to his older brother Oliver, our eight year old. old Welsh Terrier, with his high-pitched voice trying to lure Oliver into playing with him, which he often gets Oliver to do. Although Oliver is much stronger and larger than Alex, Oliver’s larger size in no way inhibits Alex’s persistent assertiveness, even at the risk of becoming a pest.

conclusion

Consider this clear statement of attributes found in our Papihuahua mixed breed.

A Papillon Chihuahua dog is very playful and full of personality. You will never have a dull moment with this adorable pet. The dog takes the kids, which is great news if you have a large family.

No doubt. The Papihuahua is a wonderful dog for homes with children.
