How do water cooled scroll chillers work?

Water-cooled scroll chillers are a refrigeration system used to cool fluids and dehumidify the surrounding air. Operating in the same way as air-cooled chillers, water-cooled scroll chillers also follow the same basic principles of evaporation and condensation. These water-cooled scroll chillers are used in a wide variety of industrial and commercial settings. Highly efficient and easy to install, these water-cooled scroll chillers are ideal for any hotel, hospital, or industry, etc. Several prominent air conditioning companies like Bluestar, Daikin’s, Voltas, Carriers also manufacture their own industrial water chiller, water cooling coils, etc.

Structure:

A single enclosed water-cooled scroll chiller unit consists of an evaporator, a condenser, a compressor, and an expansion valve. The evaporator is the main point of initiation. Here the tank is filled with water or water mixture for recirculation. Evaporator with the help of tube bundle surrounds the Central Chamber. Then the Central Chamber is connected to the Compressor, in this case, we are talking about scroll chillers that use a scroll compressor. Scroll compressor is also known as scroll compressor due to its very design. Whereupon the compressor is connected to the condenser which is again connected to the evaporator to repeat the cycle. These are the basic elements and structure of the water cooled scroll chiller.

Difference between air cooled chillers and water cooled chillers?

The operation of air-cooled chillers and water-cooled chillers is similar. They both consist of an Evaporator, Compressor, Condenser and an expansion valve. The main point of difference lies in the fact that one uses air to power the condenser cooling, while the other uses water.

This big difference of using water instead of air is also an advantage point for water coolers as the wet surface is more efficient at transferring heat compared to air cooled coolers.

How do water cooled scroll chillers work?

The process starts by filling the tank with water or water mixture for circulation. The cycle begins in the evaporator, where liquid refrigerant flows over the evaporator tube bundle and evaporates. It also absorbs the heat of the cold water that circulates through the bundle. As soon as the water reaches a high enough temperature, it begins to radiate heat back to the refrigerant in the evaporator, creating vapors. With the help of a pipe or tube, this vapor is passed through the compressor. Here the scroll compressor using its unique spiral design and two interleaved scrolls to pump, compress and pressurize fluids. The most unique feature of the scroll compressor is its ability to be quiet, it works very well in sound sensitive environments. It has a sound pressure level as low as 72 DBA. The compressor then starts to raise the condenser temperature by pumping the refrigerant vapor into the condenser. The refrigerant condenses on or inside the condenser tubes, giving up its heat to the cooling water. This high-pressure liquid refrigerant is then passed through an expansion device that lowers the refrigerant’s pressure and temperature as it enters the evaporator. The refrigerant flows back over the chilled water coils absorbing more heat and completing the cycle.

The market is awash with options when it comes to industrial water chillers and their manufacturers. Almost all the prominent air conditioning companies are in the field of manufacturing and also provide their services in this field. Each industrial chiller would also require maintenance and services after a certain period. This industry not only caters to the demands of its customers, but also caters to its services to make optimal use of technology.
