Progress is impossible without change; and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. -George Bernard Shaw

It may be difficult for an egg to become a bird: it would be much more difficult for it to learn to fly while still being an egg. – CS Lewis

If a company wants to make its name firmly entrenched in the marketplace, it may need to restructure its processes, people, and technology to keep up with the companies that are a force to be reckoned with.

First, a business must consider whether it is a local business or one that follows the guidelines of organizations around the world. Organizations can be divided into two types: one, which is owner-based and has its own set of guidelines. The second can be referred to as public framework companies that follow standards that are cross-checked against different sets of environments across multiple types of organizations and disciplines. Examples: ITIL, PRINCE2, PMBOK and ISO2000.

In a proprietary organization, knowledge, leadership, and job distribution will be as the circumstances require and may not be defined by roles. It will usually be difficult to adopt or transfer the knowledge, as it will be locally based and the owner may refuse to hand over his trade secrets unless he is bound by an agreement.

On the other hand, the knowledge that public standards companies follow is widely distributed around the world and each rated organization adheres to specific principles and practices. A common language is followed throughout the world.

The best way for an organization should be: It could cultivate its own proprietary knowledge based on public frameworks, guidelines and standards.

An organization can increase its stature in the marketplace by demonstrating technical competence and integrity. Some of the reasons are:

Clients and client organizations can be assured of the best services and can also save time and money when selecting providers.

An organization can be accredited in a particular domain only if it adheres to best practices and standards and its staff will be well-versed in technical knowledge and experience.

If an organization fails to keep pace with other organizations around the world with respect to the standards followed in a particular industry, it will lose its place in the market. You must always respond effectively to changes in terms of the market environment.

An organization should always define the value of its service as defined and measured by the customer. Only quality service can distinguish an organization from its competitors, which will be helpful in attracting and retaining customers.

In addition to certification, a company’s management must also be aware of recent trends regarding technical innovations and other details in their specific industry. Once you follow prevailing industry best practices, your organization will be able to produce high-quality products and services.
