Modern rustic interiors and furniture

The rustic-modern interior trend is a welcome change from vintage rustic taking a break from preoccupation with aesthetics. Rustic unfinished beams and brick walls with natural wood or stone floors decorated with antique furniture and natural fabrics. That’s a style I like to explore.

Incorporate rustic elements into our homes in an informal and sophisticated way, such as using an old door as a headboard. The key here is the screen. Open the doors so that the two door panels are on either side of the frame, and hang a beautiful iron lantern to complete the look. Simple iron nightstands and a long chest at the end of the bed with handwoven bedding. The idea is to be discreet. Rustic patina mirrors sit atop a long chest of drawers with a contemporary modern chair defining the look.

Reclaimed arches make floor mirrors blend beautifully with plush upholstery, industrial chairs, and lots of vintage white. The reclaimed old doorway coffee table and fire console add the right amount of texture to an otherwise modernist room. A bright yellow carved cabinet against the white wall adds a pop of color. Rustic furniture mixed with modern and functional chairs with clean lines give it a sophisticated touch. Sophisticated design is paired with a rustic white door dining table and leather chairs.

The kitchen is more towards a rustic industrial style with steel framed windows. White paint and granite counters keep the modern feel contrasted with an ancient carved tribal Damchia that has been turned into an island making the piece more functional.

Fresh but used with the tender love of family gatherings, the sofa bed sits in the corner. Use soft colors in the light blue and icy purple spectrum and keep the level of wear and tear on cabinets light. No curtains on the windows gives a feeling of open space.

The bathroom vanity is made from an old battered cabinet with a granite top and vessel sinks. Pendant lights and smooth glass showers with wall-to-wall marble tiles give the bathroom a sophisticated modern rustic elegance.

The library has a huge table carved from ancient bone with white upholstered armchairs and a bench on the other side. Modern bookshelves line the wall that is lined with classics and encyclopedias. The main wall is dedicated to family pictures framed in antique carved wood and burnished brass. Nostalgic and vintage yet modern, comfort is the key element of this design.
