Safaris in Kenya

So, have you never visited Kenya before? And are you thinking of making it your vacation destination this year? I bet you are very curious about what you can expect to do on an average day on a wildlife safari, then. Let me put your mind at ease and give you an example day of what you could do on your vacation.

Since many of Africa’s large animals are diurnal, the best chance to see them emerge is at sunset. That’s why it’s great to start the day with an early morning game drive! Sure, you may have to get up early and be more tired than usual, but what you see right now will make it all worthwhile. Spotting Africa’s legendary ‘Big Five’ – lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros – is more than possible in many of Kenya’s National Parks which are home to high densities of astonishing natural wonders. You should top off a great morning with a delicious buffet-style breakfast in your accommodation’s restaurant.

To conclude the adventure and spend as much time as possible on the tour, ask your accommodation to prepare lunch boxes so you can have lunch on the way. This leaves more time to spend on an activity, which in this case is visiting a tribal village. Upon entering the village you will be warmly welcomed and the tribe will often put on song and dance performances which usually include the famous leap by the male leaders of the tribe to show off their strength. You will be escorted through your village and taught about their culture and ethics, as well as having the opportunity to interact with some of the artisans who will show you how weapons, clothing and houses are created.

Before going to bed, it’s nice to spend some time in the hotel bar or around a roaring campfire and reminisce about the day’s events, comparing wildlife sightings with other safari goers.

There are many different types and locations of safaris in Kenya to choose from. Some people prefer to visit an area known for its scenery like Amboseli with its massive shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro hanging over it, some will choose the Masai Mara as it is home to one of the greatest natural wonders on earth; the great migration, and some will prefer a birding spot like Lake Nakuru.
