Single women and love: he was cute until he opened his mouth

In college I got a job in the counseling office, it was a great opportunity as I got to work and met some great people. As you can imagine, the counselors’ office was one of the hot spots on campus, students needed to be seen for many reasons; help select the right classes for your major, sign up for classes, drop classes, or see the dean for things that needed to be resolved. So, as you can see, we were always busy. Now with a female administrative staff, this was a fun environment to admire cute boys.

And this is where my story starts to get interesting-

Then, on a normal business day, this really attractive man shows up. He understands, I worked in the mid section of the office, so I couldn’t see him until he came up to me. Unless we get the signal from our co-worker at the front desk, signing him up, we wouldn’t be prepared to get a good look at him when he came up to us. Of course, if you wanted to take a quick, off-guard look… you can always head to the water cooler for a sudden drink, I’m thirsty… does he know what I mean? In this case, we were ready. His number was upstairs, and he headed toward us to meet with the counselor. Yes, it was absolutely, someone has to meet your mother and thank her… gorgeous.

His session with the counselor ends and he leaves, but he has to go through our path to get to the exit. So we girls (married and single) take one last look at this wonderful man who just so happens to smell good on top of everything else. Signing in awe, I told the counselor, who was super cool, “Wow he was cute,” she replied, “yeah he was until he started talking.”

I admit that appearance is important, seriously, who doesn’t want to be arm in arm with an attractive man? Whose? We all do. But my learning from this experience continues to remind me that there is more to consider than just appearance. Honestly, you change yourself if that’s all you want. There are tons of handsome men in the world, but don’t stop there, expect more… much more. Making your soul connection requires much more than being easy on the eyes. You also want me to compliment you on other amazing qualities. You deserve it all.
