The advantages and disadvantages of installing traffic lights

When people think of a traffic light, they usually immediately associate it with a 3-light light with red at the top, yellow in the middle, and green at the bottom. However, public transport often uses a different type of traffic light. This is to ensure that private traffic and public transport do not clash in terms of safety and priority. Public transport light shapes can vary in terms of letters and arrows, and contain different colored bars.

Traffic lights have a long history and the authorities experimented with various kinds of things until they found something that had a superior approach. Today it is impossible to find a traffic light that does not have an arrangement of LED bulbs. Halogen or incandescent bulbs were the most common found previously, but the recent trend shows that the number of LEDs is constantly increasing everywhere every year. Halogen or incandescent lights are known to work for a shorter period of time and the light intensity is not as powerful as LED. However, when LED was first introduced, a major problem arose. In the middle of a heavy snow storm, people in traffic may have trouble seeing what color is glowing, since LEDs don’t produce enough heat to melt snow, unlike halogen or incandescent lights. However, the advantages of LED are too great to go back to predecessors. That is why a special heating element was created to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.

There is a big difference between each region in how they mount or position traffic lights for visibility for drivers and pedestrians. Some prefer to have traffic lights mounted on cables or have them installed on long gantries. The most common form is probably the traffic light which is mounted vertically or horizontally.

Some people are of the opinion that these lights do as much harm as good. It is understandable why someone would be saying that. Quite a few engineers voiced their opinion and said that the safety of cyclists and pedestrians is influenced by traffic lights, but that they can often be a reason for traffic delays. Also, some traffic lights have detectors and these often do not work when a motorcycle, scooter or bicycle passes. Since these types of vehicles do not have the same mass as a car, they are not detected by the sensors. This problem could cause a very serious traffic accident.

It is quite common for drivers to run through red lights at high speed. Often the penalty for this illegal action is quite harsh. It varies, depending on the country or state, but those who don’t have the patience to wait will be fined or jailed.

These lights have been developed to meet the needs of the modern world and it seems that the system we have now prevents accidents and ensures the safety of people. However, some people still claim that there is room for improvement and plan to push their ideas to improve the traffic system in the future.
