The Internet: the thread that unites our global fabric
During ancient times, communication was very restricted and limited. People had to beat drums to convey a message to their friends on the other side of the mountain. Others would fire and when those on the other side saw smoke they would know something had happened. Then came the era when letters were put in bottles and thrown into a river or stream that would carry them to the addressee. Today we have the amazing and ingenious tool of communication. That’s the internet.
Today the world has become a global village. We have become a globally connected world. One click and you can communicate with your friend anywhere in the world. The Internet has revolutionized our lives in many ways. Nowadays people are shopping online. A simple click and the products are on their way to your place. Where men had to go to universities for degrees, today one can even learn to earn a master’s degree online in the comfort of their own homes. One simply wonders where this is leading us. Today the literary world is accessed through the network. Instead of buying a book, one can simply go online and google it and in no time they will be reading the book.
The Internet has played a great role in bringing us together as a people despite our racial, religious, and social differences. I can communicate with my Asian counterpart in China even though he has never been there before. In fact, we can do business together through the network. Through its easy and fast access, the Internet has been able to provide a platform for people to pursue their dreams and goals in life. Something that they would not have been able to do if it had not been for the Internet.
Much of the peace and unity we see today owes its existence to the Internet. Peace treaties and agreements have been signed and channeled through the internet. There aren’t many things today that can’t be accomplished through the Internet. The business world today is conducted through the internet. The academic world is read on the internet waiting for hungry students to devour it. Our world is now smaller because of the Internet. We are one and more united. We can communicate easily and plan faster and more efficiently. We have all the information we need just a click away, making it easy to play suggestively with probable futures. We are able to make sound decisions because our mentors are constantly online and therefore we access their wisdom anytime and whenever we want.
