They do not dance No Mo! They do not dance No Mo!

Has everyone become so bubbly that they’d rather show up to sit down and talk, then get up and dance at a big party? The rap group “Goodie Mob” said it best in a song from their second album: Still Standing. The song was called: “They don’t dance no mo, They don’t dance no mo” – All they do is insult, All they do is insult.

For the most part, most events go pretty well depending on whether the client has family and friends who like to party and dance. Speaking of family, you know that every family has that crazy uncle or cousin who is the life of every party encouraging everyone to dance. Then every once in a while there are those few parties where you know as a professional DJ you’re playing all the good stuff, but nothing seems to get the party started, they’re so dead you start hearing the crickets.

I’ve seen a few wedding concerts recently that end shortly after dinner, perhaps through the cutting of the cake or the tossing of the bouquet, and they’re gone. Let’s face it, most people need their bride and groom to do something before they feel comfortable enough to get up and dance themselves. Unfortunately, some families don’t do much dancing anymore.

I’ve always been a more analytical type of DJ often trying to reason why certain events were hits and others weren’t. In the past, I would mentally punish myself for such situations because I felt that if the guest wasn’t dancing then it was my fault. But was it really?

Then there are those DJ companies that will say they’ve never had a bad night where people didn’t dance and the dance floor was packed all night, yeah right! I kept wondering what they were doing that I wasn’t, because I’m sure that after many years of doing events I know what music makes people move. Next I decided to investigate and to my surprise most were not telling the truth about dance floor consistency. I have found that while a party may have all the necessary ingredients to be a success, such as good food, drink and music, there are many reasons why not every event will be a success.

The first reason I considered is that most of the people who come to the events don’t really know how to dance. It’s funny but the only time you can see everyone on the dance floor at the same time is if you play the electric slide, cha cha slide, random cupid etc, yes line dances or step songs . Now there is nothing wrong with those songs because they are the songs that can break the ice at most events. They’ll motivate the whole crowd to join in, but of course we can’t play group dance songs all night because they haven’t done many of them yet. Plus, who would want to listen to them all night, after dancing to two of them in a row, you’ll most likely be tired and ready to sit down.

When some people get drunk they often get up and dance, but what if it’s one of those events where the pastor or spiritual leader is present? . Not to mention, they probably won’t be serving alcohol at that event either. There is an old saying that if there is no alcohol, then there are no boogie shoes.

Then there are those who just come to events to see who’s who and what people are wearing like the fashion police. Excuse me moi; It’s a party, not a fashion show where you have to come and judge what people are wearing or who they’re with. Someone has spent their hard-earned money, invited you to come help them celebrate, and part of the celebration includes dancing, of course. I can understand everyone at the party not dancing for certain reasons, but it’s becoming a sad place to see people go out and buy a new outfit, get their hair done, put on the sweetest smelling perfume/cologne just to show up. to a large event to sit down.

I enjoy being a DJ, but the future of parties is changing, so I think more interaction and activities will have to be applied to bring people back to the essence.

If you’re planning an event, it’s good to know that if you have a few activities organized first, they can work as icebreakers that will end up with more guests dancing later. In any case, there are some people who will dance no matter what, but most people need you to do something just to help them get in the mood. The days of people who came and danced are disappearing.
