What do men mean when they call a girl ‘pretty’?
Google says cute is “attractive in a pretty or endearing way,” and when the word is used in reference to a girl, things get confusing. All men are different and it is a known fact that men suck at expressing themselves. They want to say something and they can say something else. It is because of this fact that girls often have a hard time understanding men. There are hundreds of ways to define a woman; poets, lyricists and authors are the best at the job. Unfortunately, not all men are authors or poets.
The adjective “cute” is based on both the girl’s appearance and behavior. Looking is pretty easy to explain in context and most of us already know what I mean. Behavior is also very important here; boys particularly find a girl cute when she acts like a girl, or when she makes faces, or when she dances like no one is watching. Some guys even find it cute when a girl brushes her hair behind her ears while she talks. To tell the truth, guys have a different conception of calling a girl cute. For example, in the western part of the world, men often find cute to be synonymous with casual sex appeal. For example, when your girl wears your shirt, the oversized shirt hanging off her body looks super sexy. Or, when a girl raps along to gangsta hip-hop lyrics and smiles at her man hers.
Whereas if one goes east towards land Of The Rising Sun, the definition of cute changes, if not drastically but definitely on some level. In Japan, for example, where people often say “Kawai,” which means cute in Japanese, to just about anything, from a girl to a dress to even a pen, they usually say it based on appearance. When people in the East call a girl cute, their judgment is mainly based on appearance. I’m not saying that behavior doesn’t play a role here, but it’s something that comes later. What dominates is how cute it looks. When your man calls you cute, or your college friend calls you cheesy, what they meant could be anything.
People often ask a question: is it possible for a girl to be cute and sexy? Many feel that a girl can be whatever she wants; she can be cute, she can be attractive, she can be smart and intellectual, all at the same time. However, it is also interesting to note that some men have a different conception of whether a girl is cute or sexy. For them, a pretty girl is different from a sexy girl. They believe that a girl can be one but not both. They will always call Megan Fox, Sofia Vergara sexy but not cute and Amanda Seyfried Selena Gomez cute but not sexy. His concept of attractive and cute is completely different. Although Megan Fox can do cute things, it’s her attractiveness that dominates most of the time. To be honest, the definition of “cute” is still fuzzy, or you can say it’s a general thing. Boys call girls cute at different events. Cute or hot guys love them all. So what you have to do, girls, is to take the complement and be what you like, be yourself.
