Border Highway Organization-Choosing as a Career Option

Border Road Organization is a multi-faceted, modern construction organization committed to meeting the strategic needs of the military. The role of the Organization is to develop and maintain operational road infrastructure in border areas and also contributes to the socio-economic development of border states.

It was built in 1960 to open roads through the difficult Himalayas in the northwestern and northeastern border areas of the country. Although for the basic purpose it is a road construction civil engineering organization, similar function as central or state disabled people but in that of Indian Army Corps of Engineers.

Units Configuration

The lowest, most independent labor unit is called the Highway Construction Company, or ‘RCC’. Like a provincial PWD Division, an RCC is commanded by an officer with the rank of Executive Engineer or Major.

To help RCCs and BRTFs produce optimal results, the organization has certain common service units such as ‘Engineering Shop Supply and Transportation Company’ or for Construction Shop Acquisition, Storage, Issuance and Transportation; ‘Field Workshop’ or ‘Field Workshop Platoon’ for the maintenance and repairs of departmental vehicles and a variety of hill-cutting/road-building/maintenance machinery and base depots for storing reserve stocks of provisions and teams.

In addition, the organization has ‘GREF Pioneer Companies’, each of which has about 400 pioneers, who are the foot soldiers of the organization. They handle all sorts of manual tasks, which casual daily bets cannot otherwise run.

The Border Highways Organization also borrows a complement from Army Pioneer which are authorized and also firearms for security duties with movement of cash, confidential documents or VIPs. Salaries and Bonuses in the Border Road Organization.
