Dallas Cowboys stay strong without Owens

Despite not winning a playoff game since Troy Aikman was quarterback, the Dallas Cowboys still manage to steal the spotlight one way or another. The Dallas Cowboys moved into their coliseum for the start of the 2009 season. With a larger “spaceship-like” stadium and a party atmosphere, high expectations are raised for the royal team. Jerry Jones isn’t shy about spending money; hopefully the Cowboys’ accomplishments on the field can match those of the new stadium.

The Cowboys have a good quarterback in Tony Romo, who is prone to a three-interception game from time to time. Romo can make plays and has shown signs of a top quarter in the league. The Cowboys running game is fantastic, they average around 200 yards per game. Whether they can keep averaging 200 yards per game remains to be seen – a valuable running game is a quarterback’s best friend.

The Cowboys defense will need to improve because even with QB Tony Romo, RB Marion Barber, RB Felix Jones, TE Jason Witten, WR Patrick Crayton and WR Roy E. Williams, they may not be able to get past the opponents every Sunday.

The Cowboys play in the very difficult NFC East with the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles; playing these teams twice a year will show just how worthy the Cowboys are to compete in the NFC.

The question for the Cowboys to answer is who are the leaders in the locker room. Romo will have to go to the next step, manage the game and make plays when necessary and not be “Tony Turnover.” The Cowboys have a very good and capable team that can win a lot of games if they play to their full potential. The Cowboys need to end their playoff drought: Going more than 10 years without winning a playoff game for the Dallas Cowboys is unacceptable.
