LeBron James’ off-season circus and its offshoots

For anyone who has been living under a rock, LeBron James is a free agent and will pick a team to play for, whether it’s his current team, the Cavaliers, or a new one. Even those who choose not to watch ESPN on a regular basis will know this fact because the story has even made it to major national news stations like Fox News and CNN. LeBron will choose a team, either the current one or a new one, at an hour-long national news conference in the very near future. One has to wonder what kind of prep work needs to be carried out to stage an impromptu press conference like this and there is sure to be a handcart or handcarts involved as everything from sound equipment to cameras is set up all over the place. The following paragraphs will give a summary of some of the options LeBron has, and then discuss the ramifications of where he ultimately chooses.

One of the options on the table for the basketball superstar is to stay with his current team, the Cavaliers. The Cavs are from Cleveland, very close to James’ hometown of Akron, and they clearly have a special place in his heart. Cleveland’s economy has also been very positively affected by LeBron playing in town, as more people go to games and then spend money downtown while they’re at Cavs games.

While the Cavaliers are likely to be the top contenders for LeBron’s signing, there are a few other options on the table as well. One of these options is going to the Miami Heat, who recently waived fellow star Dwayne Wade and brought in new player Chris Bosh, an excellent player in his own right. Pundits say going to Miami is probably LeBron’s best chance to win multiple NBA titles because of the strong supporting cast they just brought in. In addition, the Chicago Bulls are an option and have just signed All Star Carlos Boozer twice and already have an excellent point guard to accompany James in Derrick Rose. Lastly, the New York Knicks have a long shot at signing LeBron, mainly due to the fact that they are located in one of the biggest media cities in the world.

There will be a number of ramifications for LeBron depending on where he plays next year. If, as some pundits have suggested, LeBron signs with the Miami Heat to play Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade, he could win multiple league championships. Ultimately though, it could be a bad thing for the brand that James wants to become because people will see that he couldn’t win a title alone and he had to have two or three other stars around him to top him. .

Even though there are literally thousands of bigger things happening in the world right now, LeBron James will soon pick a team he’ll play for next year via an hour-long news special. Finally, America can stop holding its collective breath.
