List of Vegetables to Feed Plecos

This is a list of many vegetables and some fruits that can be fed to your plecs. Also included are some suggestions for weighing the vegetables in the tank.

IMPORTANT

1. Make sure you have ID from your plec to ensure the correct dietary needs are met.

2. A varied diet of vegetables and fruits is needed to cover nutritional needs.

3. Don’t forget to include seaweed, meat and wood wafers depending on the species of plec.

4. If you put something that contains skin or bark, be sure to scrub it first to remove any pesticides.

START LIST

This is a list of vegetables and fruits that are popular with most plecs. Zucchini/Zucchini Cucumber Peas (shelled) Sweet Potato Green Beans Melon/Melon Rind

OTHER VEGETABLES AND FRUITS

Apple (doesn’t seem to be very popular) Asparagus Eggplant / Brinjal Avocado Broccoli / Stem Butternut Squash + other squash Capsicum / Bell pepper (not the hot ones) Cauliflower / Carrot Stem Coconut Grapes Kale / Eggplant Kiwi Lettuce Beans Lime Mango Mushroom (common and gold plecs love mushroom) let it float, they’ll catch up with it. Good exercise. Papaya Potato Pumpkin Spinach Sprouts Kohlrabi Tomato Yam

Most vegetables can be given raw, but if you find that no one is interested, try blanching. Do not leave vegetables and especially fruits for a long time, otherwise you may end up with water quality problems. The easiest approach is to add them at night and remove them in the morning.

VEGETABLE WEIGHT SUGGESTIONS

Stainless steel spoon (push the spoon through the vegetables) Stainless steel fork (there have been suggestions that plecs have hurt themselves on the tips of forks, use at your own risk) An elastic band/stone Vegetable clip with suction cap (fishmongers usually sell these) Screws.
