The Coolest New iPhone Apps

In response to the runaway success of the Apple App Store, we bring you the first of what is likely to be a long series of summaries of what’s new and amazing apps for the iPhone.

1. ZRx prescriber: Not of particularly direct use to most of us non-physicians, but of such extraordinary value to all of our physicians that ZoomMed’s prescription facilitation tool, now conveniently available at the Iphone.

 

two. iNotes: If you’ve ever used Lotus iNotes, do you know how wonderful it would be to have that “second memory” literally at your fingertips? IBM’s communication marvel brings Lotus Domino’s messaging server services (email, contacts, and calendar) to the iPhone.

 

3. I once: Calling this program a data aggregator would be like calling a great pyramid a building. iOnce stores and organizes all of your account information for each website you communicate with (email accounts, online banking, Internet gaming, airline miles, social media, bookmarks, dating, etc.). Plus, you can access all of these various sites and services through this one program, even sites that don’t yet have their own iPhone apps, and with security equal to or greater than all the password-protected sites and services you already use. confidence. Receive alerts and notifications of upcoming bill due dates, track and modify travel itineraries, manage eBay deals and listings, and more. It’s no wonder, then, that this great app, courtesy of Israeli company Pageonce, is already in the Top 5 of Apple’s App Store Productivity Department, along with PayPal and Twitter.

 

Four. Frommer’s Travel Guides: We probably don’t need to tell you what these inimitable little and big tomes have done for people all over the world for years. Travelers consider Frommer’s Guides to be life-saving at best, and otherwise no less than a vacation enhancement. Frommer’s Travel Guides is the best pocket guidebook for self-guided tours, and certainly no less so with these even smaller iPhone versions. Now you can access all the useful travel information – from locations and maps to recommendations and reviews – spontaneously and on the go (in other words, from your iPhone). The first to be launched are the 2008 New York, Paris, London and San Francisco editions.

 

5. GTS World Racing: Players Unite! Leading mobile video game maker, Handmark, made its iPhone debut with this amazing car racing game featuring 64 tracks and 16 arenas around the world with 4 different game modes: Championship, Grand Tour, Challenge Cup and Championship. Single Race. Particularly novel mobile features include the use of the iPhone’s accelerometer to manage braking, steering and acceleration. Plus, you can listen to music from your own iTunes music library while you play. And the program saves your progress when real life forces you to take a break from racing.

Many of these programs will also be available to iPod Touch users.
