The worst Christmas presents of all time!

Shopping for an affordable and appropriate Christmas gift isn’t the hardest thing in the world, so how come we’ve all experienced a forgettable gift during the holiday season? Maybe my bad personal gifts are because I overthought the whole thing and should have gone with my gut. But in saying that, going for the obvious and sending a gift card or coupon is just thoughtless. So here is my list of the worst Christmas gifts: I must admit I actually bought one for a family member, the other two unfortunately were given to me.

Electronic gifts from Santa Claus. I think those are three words that should never go together, just like the electronic stuff they said Santa really does. Here’s a basic rule of thumb I guess, if Santa does something when you put the batteries in the back and flip the switch to turn it on, there’s probably a reason the Christmas present is on the list of worst presents. I’ve seen a mountaineer Santa climbing, a flying trapeze Santa, a Santa wearing sunglasses who said a funny line when you got too close. Anyway, the basic rule is true, Santa Claus does not need batteries, period.

Art is a personal gift idea. Certainly, art is a wonderful stimulus to reflect on the meaning of life and appreciate the intricate design of the universe, but as a gift it is pretentious, opinionated, and likely to provoke awe. You see, art is one of the most personal gifts you can imagine, so it’s not even remotely likely that I’d offer her an abstract wildflower print and actually appreciate the idea. More to the point, you would politely return the art and suggest that it would look better on another wall. I haven’t received art yet but I’ve given it and it’s not talked about much so I guess it wasn’t appreciated.

Discount office supplies purchased gift baskets. You know the little baskets filled with cheap 7 Eleven chocolates, a candy cane and some wafer cookies and under plastic with a little basket? I’m not sure if it was because he was working in a factory and things weren’t going too well for the boss, but at Christmas the checkout clerk put us all in line and handed out a little basket of these things. to all floor employees. The Gift Basket still had the Office Supplies Discount tag on the bottom. Without a doubt the worst gift of all!

Another worst Christmas gift idea is the store coupon or voucher. They force you to select a gift from a specific store, almost worse than just throwing some money away. And just one more touch of thought too. So the worst Christmas gift idea is the gift certificate.

When you’re thinking about Christmas gifts, avoid my list of the worst and take some time to make a meaningful and memorable Christmas gift. There’s so much out there that it really isn’t an excuse to make the list of the worst gift ideas.
